Investor Jepang Tanaka Siap Hilirisasi Logam Mulia RI untuk Industri Otomotif
BAGIKAN:

Japan-based precious metals firm Tanaka Precious Metal plans to channel investment into Indonesia’s downstream processing sector, aiming to transform raw materials into specialized industrial products. This initiative, disclosed by the Indonesian Jewelry Manufacturers Association (APPI), focuses on producing potassium gold cyanide and bonding wires, which serve critical supply chains for automotive and electronics industries.

Menggeser Rantai Pasok dari Lintas Negara ke Dalam Negeri

Vice Chairman of APPI, Arief Budiman, noted that the global processing of precious metals has long relied on facilities in Taiwan and other nations, despite the primary raw materials originating from Indonesian mines. This arrangement has historically limited domestic benefits. The proposed investment seeks to internalize the value chain, ensuring that the economic gains from Indonesia’s natural resources are retained locally rather than accruing to foreign entities.

Langkah Regulasi dan Tindak Lanjut Strategis

The investment plan was formally communicated to Minister of Industry Sarmuji at the Ministry of Industry headquarters in South Jakarta on Wednesday (28/10). The Minister welcomed the downstreaming effort and instructed APPI to coordinate closely with the relevant directorates. As a next step, APPI is scheduled to hold a meeting with the Directorate of Upstream Chemical Industry on November 2. However, specific investment figures have not yet been agreed upon, as the Japanese firm is still in the process of resolving regulatory hurdles. A key concern involves the classification of potassium cyanide under the list of prohibited and restricted goods, which APPI is currently addressing with the Ministry of Industry to secure the investor’s commitment.

  • Production targets include potassium gold cyanide (PGC) and bonding wire for the automotive and electronics sectors.
  • Coordination with the Directorate of Upstream Chemical Industry is set for November 2.
  • Regulatory clarification on potassium cyanide import restrictions remains a prerequisite for finalizing the investment.
